Paolo Banchero already likes what he’s seeing from new Magic coach Sean Sweeney.
Speaking with Yahoo Sports’ Kelly Iko, Banchero said the two have quickly developed a strong relationship, even spending time together in Seattle before regrouping in Las Vegas this week.
“They’ve been great,” Banchero said. “Me and him have really hit it off so far.”
Banchero praised Sweeney’s attention to detail and intensity, saying both should benefit a young Orlando team looking to take another step in the Eastern Conference.
As for his own goals, the former No. 1 overall pick said he wants to improve across the board entering his fifth NBA season, with offensive efficiency sitting near the top of the list.
The Timberwolves have officially signed second-round pick Isaiah Evans to his first NBA contract.
According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the four-year deal is worth approximately $9.3 million, with the first three seasons guaranteed and a team option on the fourth.
Evans, the 33rd overall pick in last month’s draft, averaged 15.0 points at Duke last season and entered the NBA as one of the better shooters in his draft class.
His signing was delayed because he was part of a draft-night trade that wasn’t officially completed until Friday.
The Pelicans’ quiet offseason included one move that caught plenty of people by surprise.
According to Jake Fischer, New Orleans gave veteran center DeAndre Jordan a fully guaranteed two-year contract, marking the first multiyear deal he’s received since 2021.
Jordan, who turns 38 later this month, appeared in just 12 games last season. But his impact extended well beyond the box score, serving as a respected veteran voice in the locker room while mentoring younger players such as Derik Queen and Zion Williamson.
The former All-Star was named the NBA’s Teammate of the Year this past season, and the new contract also puts him on track to reach a personal milestone.
Jordan is entering his 19th NBA season, meaning he’ll now have the opportunity to make it to Year 20. I think that’s something just about everyone around the league would enjoy seeing.
