Pistons

The Pistons provided updates on three rotation players Saturday, and the news is mixed.

Forward Tobias Harris has been diagnosed with a left hip sprain and will be reevaluated in two weeks.

The timeline means Harris is likely to miss at least five more games, beginning with Sunday’s matchup against Cleveland and Monday’s game vs. New York, with no guarantee he’s ready when he’s checked again on January 17.

Harris, 33, has started every game he’s played since signing with Detroit last offseason and is averaging 13.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. With an expiring $26.6 million contract, he remains a name to monitor as the trade deadline approaches.

Center Jalen Duren is dealing with a right ankle sprain and will be reevaluated in one week. His absence looms larger in the short term.

Duren is in the middle of a breakout season, averaging 17.9 points and 10.6 rebounds through 31 games, and Detroit has been notably better with him on the floor.

With Duren sidelined, Isaiah Stewart is expected to take on a larger role, with Paul Reed providing depth behind him.

Guard/forward Caris LeVert remains day-to-day with right knee inflammation and will not travel for Sunday’s game in Cleveland as he continues treatment.

Magic

Anthony Black is giving the Magic a glimpse of what the future might look like.

The third-year guard is posting career highs across the board and has taken another step since entering the starting lineup last month.

Over that stretch, Black is averaging 20.6 points while shooting efficiently, a development Fred Katz of The Athletic attributes in part to his improved ability to change speeds and create space offensively.

Black turns 22 later this month and will be eligible for a rookie-scale extension this offseason.

Kings

Rookie big man Maxime Raynaud is awaiting further evaluation after a scare late Friday.

Raynaud had to be helped off the court after injuring his left leg while setting a screen for Russell Westbrook, but said afterward he’s hopeful the injury isn’t serious.

“I’ll be fine,” Raynaud said, via Chris Biderman of The Sacramento Bee. “It was just scary.”

Raynaud is scheduled to undergo an MRI on his left knee. The second-round pick has appeared in 25 games, including 11 starts, and is averaging 10.5 points and 6.3 rebounds for the Kings.
