Rockets

Kevin Durant doesn’t plan on going anywhere.

Nearly three months after being traded from the Suns to the Rockets, the 37-year-old forward made it clear at media day that he expects to sign an extension to stay in Houston.

“I do see myself signing a contract extension,” Durant said, via The Houston Chronicle’s Danielle Lerner. “I can’t tell you exactly when that’ll happen, but I do see it happening.”

Durant is currently eligible for a two-year, $119.1 million extension based on the projected 2026-27 salary cap. That figure could tick up to $120.85 million in January.

Houston, however, has reportedly been hesitant to give Durant a full max deal that would cover his age-38 and -39 seasons. A shorter or slightly smaller extension — around $100 million over two years — has been floated.

Durant also explained why Houston was among his preferred destinations when Phoenix put him on the trade block.

“Just seeing the quick progression of this franchise … it felt organic and natural,” Durant said. “I always had respect for this coaching staff, this fan base, this state, this city. So it feels great.”

Mavericks

Anthony Davis is taking a page out of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s book.

The Mavericks big man will wear protective eyewear for the rest of his career, per a doctor’s mandate following a procedure in July to repair a detached retina in his right eye (via ESPN’s Tim MacMahon).

Davis played through multiple hits to the face last season, including a corneal abrasion in his other eye last November when he was still with the Lakers.

Now 32 and entering the first year of his three-year, $175 million extension, Davis says his vision is clear and he has no limitations heading into camp — though there’s noticeable redness from ongoing eye-drop treatment.

Davis was acquired from L.A. in February’s blockbuster Luka Doncic trade and appeared in only nine games for Dallas last season because of an adductor injury. He averaged 20.0 points, 10.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.2 blocks.

Hornets

Brandon Miller is good to go.

Hornets president of basketball operations Jeff Peterson said Monday that Miller is healthy and will participate in training camp, per Rod Boone of The Charlotte Observer. Miller’s rookie season ended early following wrist surgery in January.

Meanwhile, Grant Williams (knee) and Josh Green (shoulder) are expected to miss all of camp as they continue their rehab from major surgeries.
