Bismack Biyombo is sticking around San Antonio. Per Shams Charania of ESPN, the veteran center has agreed to a one-year deal with the Spurs. Michael Scotto of HoopsHype adds the contract will be non-guaranteed.
Biyombo, 33, joined the Spurs in March and immediately slid into the starting lineup, logging 26 starts in 28 games. He averaged 5.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and shot nearly 59 percent. This time, he’s likely ticketed for a reserve role behind Victor Wembanyama and free agent signee Luke Kornet.
Biyombo has now been in the NBA for 15 seasons, suiting up for seven teams since being drafted No. 7 overall in 2011. The Spurs sit at the 21-man offseason roster limit, so a cut — possibly Isaiah Miller, signed on a camp deal last week — will have to happen before Biyombo is finalized.
Schroder pays tribute to Nowitzki: Dennis Schroder has been piling up medals for Germany — World Cup gold in 2023, EuroBasket gold this summer, bronze in 2022 — but he says none of it happens without Dirk Nowitzki paving the way.
“Dirk, what he’s been doing for the German national team and what he’s done in the NBA made us come to the national team and represent our country,” Schroder said, via BasketNews.
Still, he isn’t chasing comparisons. “At the end of the day, my name is Dennis Schroder. That’s my legacy,” he said.
Nets sign Muoka: Brooklyn has added 6-foot-10 center David Muoka, according to the league’s official transaction log.
Muoka played at Lamar and UNLV before joining the G League, where he averaged 10.7 points, 8.5 boards and 2.0 blocks for Windy City last season. He was with Portland on an Exhibit 10 deal last fall, and while the Nets haven’t clarified this new deal, Exhibit 10 seems like the most logical path.
With Muoka on board, the Nets have filled their 21-man camp roster — though deals with Ricky Council IV and Grant Nelson still need to be finalized.
