Wizards

Second-year center Alex Sarr returned to the practice floor in a limited capacity Monday, taking part in non-contact work for the first time this fall, per Josh Robbins of The Athletic.

Sarr, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 draft, suffered a right calf injury during EuroBasket and had been sidelined since. The Wizards have maintained optimism that he’ll be ready for opening night, and Monday’s participation was an encouraging sign.

The 7-footer averaged 13.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in 67 games as a rookie last season.

Timberwolves

Bones Hyland made an early statement in Minnesota’s preseason opener against Denver, leading the team with 18 points in 22 minutes, along with three assists and just one turnover, writes Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.

Hyland is currently slotted behind Mike Conley and Rob Dillingham on the depth chart, but his strong camp and preseason debut could make the point guard rotation interesting. Minnesota traded up to draft Dillingham eighth overall in 2024, and the Wolves are heavily invested in his development.

Hyland re-signed with Minnesota in September after joining late last season on a two-way deal. He’s formed a close bond with Dillingham and said the rookie reminds him of himself.

The Wolves wrapped up camp without much drama, a calm vibe that Chris Hine of The Star Tribune suggests could bode well for the regular season.

Suns

Head coach Jordan Ott provided injury updates on Jalen Green (hamstring) and Mark Williams, saying both are trending in the right direction.

Green is “definitely progressing,” per Ott, while Williams is “in a good place” as he ramps up, reports Duane Rankin of the Arizona Republic.

Both players’ statuses for Phoenix’s upcoming preseason games in China remain up in the air, but teammate Jared Butler said he thinks Green is “super close” to returning.
