NBA play-in tournament odds: Who will clinch final spots in postseason?

There’s nothing like elimination games, and we’re blessed with several in the coming days as the play-in tournament tips off Tuesday.

The New Orleans Pelicans, Los Angeles Lakers, Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors will battle it out for the final two spots in the West. The eventual No. 7 seed will face the Denver Nuggets, while the No. 8 seed will take on the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Meanwhile, the Philadelphia 76ers, Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks are fighting it out for the final spots in the East. The No. 7 seed plays the New York Knicks and the No. 8 seed faces the Boston Celtics.

For those who need a reminder, here’s how the play-in tournament works according to the NBA’s official website:

First, each conference’s No. 7 team in the standings will host the No. 8 team. The winners secure the No. 7 seed in the playoffs. The losers will get another chance to earn a playoff spot.

That means the winner of Tuesday's game between the Pelicans and Lakers, as well as Wednesday's game between the Heat and 76ers, will become the official 7-seed in their respective conference.

Meanwhile, each conference’s No. 9 team in the standings will host the No. 10 team. The winners will advance to the final stage of the play-in tournament. The losers are eliminated.

The losers of the No. 7 vs. No. 8 matchups will host the winners of the No. 9 vs. No. 10 matchups. The winners secure the No. 8 seed in the NBA playoffs for their conference. The losing teams are eliminated.
