NBA Player Under Investigation for Shocking Gambling Scandal

ESPN reported on Monday that Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter faces NBA scrutiny following recent betting discrepancies as the league is “looking into it.” Prop bets surrounding Porter from games played on January 26 and March 20 are under question.

There was notable interest in Porter’s under in the January 26 game against the LA Clippers, as his performance fell below set expectations. Similar patterns emerged in the March 20 game against the Sacramento Kings.

DraftKings Sportsbook highlighted Porter’s prop bets as top money winners for bettors, raising concerns. Multiple U.S. sportsbooks observed unusual betting activity on Porter’s props, indicating potential foul play.

“People were trying to do whatever they could to bet Jontay Porter props [against the Clippers],” a source told ESPN. “And then, just a few days ago, the same thing. We had a bunch of people trying to bet under for more.”

NBA regulations strictly prohibit players and staff from betting on league events, with violations subject to severe penalties. The league monitors sports betting activities for integrity, employing data scientists and third-party monitors.

After overcoming injury setbacks, Porter debuted in the NBA in 2021. In 26 games, Porter has averaged 4.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game for the Raptors. He’s currently earning $415,000 while being signed to a two-way contract.
