NBA Star Chris Paul Announces Personal News on Thursday

This summer has been a big one for legendary NBA point guard Chris Paul. Earlier in the offseason, the 40-year-old left the San Antonio Spurs after one season and returned to the Los Angeles Clippers, where he played some of the best basketball of his career, on a one-year deal. On Thursday, Paul made a personal announcement that adds to an already eventful summer.

Paul is already a legend on the basketball court, but he will look to make an impact off the court as well. On Instagram, the Clippers guard announced that he has launched The Chris Paul Collective. In the post, Paul said he was "excited" to work towards bringing his "business and community work under one roof."

"Excited to introduce The @ChrisPaulCollective our next chapter, bringing our business and community work under one roof," Paul wrote on Instagram. "This builds on everything we have created from day one. Grateful for our team, and excited to welcome David Schwab @schwabdavid as President of TCPC as we scale this vision. Let’s get to work!"

Chris Paul Could Be In Line For His Final Season

For the past few years, many have wondered when the Wake Forest alum will call it quits. While he can still provide value on the court, it is evident that his best playing days are behind him. Furthermore, he just turned 40 years old in May and is set to play for his fourth team in as many years.

Back in July, before he re-joined the Clippers, Paul made it clear that next season, which will be his 21st in the NBA, will be his final one (h/t Jemele Hill on YouTube).

"At the most, a year," Paul said. "I just finished my 20th season, which is a blessing in itself. I've been in the NBA for more than half of my life, which is a blessing. But these years you do not get back with your kids, with your family."

However, in an August interview with ESPN's Malika Andrews, the 12-time All-Star, while not completely going back on his previous comments, was far less committal to retiring after next season (h/t Malika Andrews on YouTube).

"Yeah, I don't know," Paul said to Andrews. "I don't know that. I think throughout this season, at some point, guys that I know who retired and all this different side stuff, more than anything this season, I will definitely enjoy it. I don't take this for granted. I don’t."

Regardless of whether next season will be his last in the NBA or not, Paul is a future Hall of Famer and has established himself as one of the greatest point guards the league has ever seen. As he looks to finally win an NBA title, the one thing that has eluded him throughout his career, he will look to prove to the basketball world that he can still contribute at a high level, even if retirement is right around the corner.
