The Memphis Grizzlies' season didn't end the way they wanted it, but they're having one of the most active offseasons in the NBA. After getting swept in the first round by the eventual champion Oklahoma City Thunder, they dealt Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic, traded up for Washington State forward Cedric Coward in the draft, and agreed to hand star Jaren Jackson Jr. a max five-year, $240 million contract extension.
Memphis also agreed to sign former Cleveland Cavaliers guard Ty Jerome to a three-year, $28 million deal. The 27-year-old averaged 12.5 points on 51.6 percent shooting (43.9 percent 3 PT) with 2.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists over 19.9 minutes last season.
However, the Grizzlies announced unfortunate news about Jackson on Tuesday, one day after they agreed to terms with him and Jerome, via Grizzlies PR.
"The Memphis Grizzlies today provided the following medical update on Grizzlies forward/center Jaren Jackson Jr.: While participating in a live basketball run offsite, Jackson Jr. sustained a turf toe injury in his right foot, which upon expert evaluation yesterday, was determined to require a procedure to repair," they reported.
"An update and preliminary timeline will be provided following the procedure, but Jackson Jr. is expected to make a full recovery," they continued.

Jackson was 23rd in the NBA with 22.2 points per game last season. The 6-foot-10-inch, 242-pounder shot 48.8 percent from the field (37.5 percent 3 PT) while averaging 5.6 rebounds and two assists across 29.8 minutes.
Jackson made the All-Star team in 2023 and 2025 and was the Defensive Player of the Year in 2023.
