NBA Trade Idea Sends Devin Booker to Struggling West Team

The Phoenix Suns had a disastrous 2024-25 season. They went 36-46 and didn't even make the play-in tournament despite having Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal.

The Suns fired head coach Mike Budenholzer on Monday after just one season. Frank Vogel was fired last year after one season in the desert as well.

According to Shams Charania of ESPN, Phoenix is expected to work with Durant on a trade this offseason. One NBA analyst, though, thinks Booker should be traded too.

Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report proposed that the Suns trade Booker to the Portland Trail Blazers for Anfernee Simons, Matisse Thybulle, Shaedon Sharpe, a 2028 first-round pick swap, a 2029 first-round pick swap, a 2030 first-round pick and a 2031 first-round pick.

The Blazers went 36-46 as well this season. They haven't made the playoffs since 2021.

"It would make plenty of sense for the Suns to trade Durant, keep Booker and try to retool around the younger wing going forward," Bailey wrote. "But few teams, really in the history of the NBA, have had as little flexibility as Phoenix has right now. The quickest and most logical shortcut to more is probably a Booker trade. He is, without question, the most valuable player on the roster. And if the Suns made him available, multiple teams would pony up offers that included young talent and picks. The Portland Trail Blazers, of course, can put together a mighty competitive offer."

Booker averaged 25.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 7.1 assists for the Suns this season. He became the leading scorer in franchise history, passing Hall of Famer Walter Davis.

Phoenix signed Booker to a four-year, $220 million extension in 2022. Booker, 28, will make $53.1 million next season.

A four-time All-Star, Booker has career averages of 24.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 5.2 assists. It will be interesting to see if he stays in Phoenix or gets traded this offseason.
