Kevin Durant’s short-lived stint with the Phoenix Suns appears to be nearing its end, with reports indicating that the former NBA MVP could be traded within the next 21 days, ahead of the NBA Draft on June 25.

After failing to make the playoffs this season, the Suns are recalibrating, and trading Durant seems to be the key move to reset the roster. Phoenix currently owns only a late first-round pick and is reportedly exploring ways to regain more draft capital, starting with the No. 10 overall pick.

According to The Athletic, the Suns have opened discussions with the Houston Rockets, who currently control Phoenix’s future picks. With urgency building, the Suns have lowered their asking price for Durant in hopes of acquiring more immediate draft compensation.

The Rockets seem like the most logical trade partner, given their leverage in the Suns’ pick situation. Still, other teams have emerged as potential landing spots. Per Gambadoro, San Antonio Spurs could be a viable destination, while the Atlanta Hawks have also expressed interest in the 35-year-old forward.

Despite interest from multiple teams, Houston may present the most competitive short-term situation. The Rockets have a promising core, playoff aspirations, and the draft assets to facilitate a deal.

What could prevent Kevin Durant’s trade to the Rockets?

Although Kevin Durant brings championship pedigree and elite scoring, his durability has become a concern for suitors like the Rockets. Since undergoing Achilles surgery in 2020, Durant hasn’t played more than 60 games in a regular season.

That injury history could affect how aggressively Houston pursues him, especially since they aim to build a long-term contender with their young core. A trade for Durant would require not only giving up valuable assets but also banking on his availability to guide the team through a deep postseason run.
