NBA Writer Shares Brutal Update On New York Knicks’ Jalen Brunson
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

New York Knicks star point guard Jalen Brunson has carried the team for the majority of the 2023-24 campaign. Given how many injuries the team has endured, he has at times been the first, second and third option for New York offensively.

More often than not, he has been able to answer the call and put the team on his back. But, even players as good as Jalen Brunson need help sometimes, and that is the case moving forward.

In Game 2 against the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference semifinals, Brunson suffered a foot injury in the first quarter. It was bad enough that he asked out of the game and missed the remainder of the first half.

Jalen Brunson emerged from the locker room with about four minutes remaining in halftime and warmed up. He received clearance to return and his presence helped spur an immediate comeback.

Trailing by 10 at halftime, the New York Knicks quickly turned that deficit into a lead. They would go on to win Game 2, taking a 2-0 series lead. But, after a heartbreaking loss in Game 3 and a blowout in Game 4, the Knicks are returning to Madison Square Garden tied 2-2.

Jalen Bruson’s foot injury isn’t getting any better, as he struggled in the two games in Indiana. According to Stefan Bondy of the New York Post, the issue he is dealing with is a lot worse than he is letting on.

That is brutal news for the New York Knicks. They need Brunson operating at a high level to find success because there isn’t much else to turn to for offensive production. New York is already without Julius Randle, Bojan Bogdanovic, OG Anunoby and Mitchell Robinson.

Jalen Brunson is going to keep fighting through the issue, giving the team everything he has. Next man up has been the mantra for the Knicks recently and will continue to be. Guys like Alec Burks and Miles McBride need to continue stepping up with their star ailing and not being able to perform at 100 percent.
