F1 racing, tennis, golf and the NFL all got the Netflix documentary treatment. Now it's coming to the NBA.

Netflix had success with its docuseries "Quarterback," which followed NFL QBs Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota, three quarterbacks in distinctly different tiers. Mahomes is a two-time Super Bowl MVP, Cousins is a solid starter and four-time Pro Bowler, while Mariota has now become a backup.
They're going a different route with basketball, choosing a roster of All-Stars. LeBron James is an all-time great, Jayson Tatum is one of the league's biggest stars and Jimmy Butler is one of the most entertaining players in the NBA who reached the NBA Finals twice in four years. The 22-year-old Anthony Edwards is a rising star — albeit a controversial one — and Sabonis is a three-time All-Star.
While Sabonis is the least famous of the quintet, he may have the most fascinating personal story. His father, Arvydas Sabonis, was an international basketball legend. The younger Sabonis was born in Portland, grew up in Spain and plays internationally for Lithuania. He's also converting to Judaism.
After the success of "Formula 1: Drive to Survive," made in conjunction with Oscar-winning producer James Gay-Rees, Netflix launched a series for other sports.
2023 saw "Break Point," a series about tennis, and "Full Swing," which is about the PGA Tour. This year also saw "Quarterback," produced with NFL Films and Peyton Manning's Omaha Productions.
Omaha Productions will also be involved in the NBA series, as will James' production company and Barack Obama's Higher Ground Productions. The series is already filming, so fans can expect it to premiere sometime between this season and next.
