So far, most of the top free agents and trade candidates around the NBA have found their homes for the 2025-26 season this offseason. However, the same cannot be said for Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas, who is still available on the market as a restricted free agent.
Recently, NBA writer Zach Lowe gave his insight regarding why the Japanese native might still be a free agent, saying that "the consensus" is that he is a ball hog and less of a team-first player. Thomas sent a response following Lowe's comments that quickly went viral.
"The consenus? [Expletive] you and the consensus @ZachLowe_NBA. This is most likely the same consensus teams who can’t guard me and send double teams from jump ball . Why are we double teaming a guy who's 'not that good' make it make sense please," Thomas wrote on X.
The consenus? F*** you and the consensus @ZachLowe_NBA . This is most likely the same consensus teams who can’t guard me and send double teams from jump ball . Why are we double teaming a guy who's “not that good” make it make sense please. https://t.co/IrHNVHYqTc

Following Thomas' comments, an anonymous Nets coach spoke about the young guard and made their feelings on him crystal clear.
The 23-year-old has spent the first four seasons of his NBA career in Brooklyn and has gradually improved each year. Additionally, he is still young and has plenty of time to develop.
Regardless of Lowe's report, it seems that the Nets are fans of Thomas, with one anonymous coach saying they "love" him as a player and a person (h/t Keith Smith of Spotrac).
"We love Cam. We think he’s one of the best scoring guards in the league, and an underrated playmaker. We’ll see what happens, but our feelings about Cam as a player and person have never wavered. We love him,” a Nets coach said.
Whether Thomas returns to Brooklyn or not this offseason remains to be seen. However, if he does depart, it is fair to say it is not due to any bad blood behind the scenes.
With the start of next season still months away, there is plenty of time for Thomas to find a home for himself, whether it be in Brooklyn or elsewhere. Regardless, his status will be worth monitoring throughout the rest of the offseason.
