The Brooklyn Nets fell 113-105 Sunday to the New York Knicks in the Barclays Center. With the Knicks locked into the third seed in the Eastern Conference and the Nets not having a chance to make the Play-In Tournament, both teams sat the majority of their key players. The loss ended Brooklyn’s season as the 12th seed in the Eastern Conference with a record of 26-56.

After a lackluster season, the Nets will look to adjust the team’s construction in order to give themselves a more positive outlook. The team is very young, so they don’t have many sizable contracts to trade outside of Nic Claxton and Cam Johnson.

Nets general manager Sean Marks made a statement about the potential of trading Johnson, a 29-year-old with one year left on his contract.

“No shortage of teams calling for him,” said Marks about Johnson.

The GM went on to discuss a conversation he had with Johnson about giving him more of a leadership role moving forward. This would indicate that despite the uproar of teams wanting to trade for Johnson, Marks is hesitant to move the former No. 11 pick in the draft out of UNC.

Johnson was also asked by the press what his outlook was with the Nets or if he wanted to be moved.

“I have a very vested interest in what we’re doing [in Brooklyn],” said Johnson. “I feel like I’ve put a lot of effort into trying to be a part of this program and I take that very seriously.”

After being traded by the Phoenix Suns in the blockbuster trade where Brooklyn sent away Kevin Durant, Johnson has averaged 16.1 points and 4.4 rebounds per game on 46.3% shooting with 2.5 three-pointers made in Brooklyn over 140 games played.
