This offseason, the Denver Nuggets decided to part ways with forward Michael Porter Jr. The scoring forward was traded to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Cam Johnson. With the Nuggets, Porter developed into one of the most reliable role players. He also helped the team win the NBA championship in 2023.
Part of his time with the Nuggets was the playoff battles he had with the Los Angeles Lakers. Denver faced LA t hree times when Porter was with the team. In the three postseason series, the Colorado-based team won twice.
The only time the Nuggets lost was in their first playoff battle, which was in 2020, at the Western Conference finals. Denver lasted five games before they were eliminated in the playoffs.
Porter was one of the best scorers for the Nuggets. He ensures that the squad can rely on him in times of crisis whenever they play against LA. The 6-foot-10 forward said that he used to "always cook the Lakers" when he appeared as a guest in the "Glory Daze Podcast."
"I used to love those series against the Lakers. They were very excited. You know, the Lakers fan base … they always thought they could beat us. But they never did. I always had good series against the Lakers. I don't know what it was, but I always cooked the Lakers.
"I just think, they really didn't have a guy, a matchup for me that was trying to come off of screens."

Porter has played 14 games against the Lakers in the postseason. During that span, he has averaged 16.8 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists. He's also an efficient scorer in his games against LA, making 51.2% from the field and 44.8% from deep, according to StatMuse.
While he isn't the No.1 option for the Nuggets whenever they face the Lakers, he's still a reliable source of offense.
