Nets Plan To Retire Raptors Legend Vince Carter’s Jersey

Vince Carter will be honored by the Brooklyn Nets this season.

The Nets announced they’ll retire Carter’s No. 15 jersey on Jan. 25 against the Miami Heat.

They’ll be the first organization to honor Carter as he’s set to head into the Basketball Hall of Fame next month.

After his tenure with the Toronto Raptors, Carter spent five seasons with the Nets. He averaged 23.6 points per game during his time in New Jersey and led them to a couple of playoff berths.

The Nets retiring Carter’s jersey will mark the eighth retired by the franchise.

The Raptors are also expected to honor Carter this season, but the franchise has yet to announce their plans. However, Toronto’s city edition jersey leaked online for this season and it appears to be honoring Carter.

The alternate jersey has a Raptor dunking a basketball through his legs, paying homage to Carter’s iconic dunk from the 2000 dunk contest. The Raptors have yet to officially reveal the new jersey.

Carter began his career in Toronto, leading the Raptors to two playoff appearances. The Raptors then traded him to the Nets in Dec. of 2004.

The 47-year-old also had stints with the Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings and Atlanta Hawks before retiring in 2020 ending his 22-year career.

Carter is the Raptors fourth all-time leading scorer with 9,420 points.
