When it comes to the GOAT debate in basketball, most fans elect Michael Jordan as the man over LeBron James. While several former NBA stars have agreed with this narrative, Suns forward Dillon Brooks became the latest addition, as he also explained the reason behind his choice.
Brooks has embraced the villain image when it comes to rating James since the Lakers-Memphis Grizzlies series in 2023. So when he appeared on the RAY LIVE YouTube channel on May 14 and was asked to pick between Michael Jordan and LeBron James, his answer was obvious. However, Brooks had his reasons.
“I think he’s just more efficient,” Brooks said of Jordan. “Like with winning. He has more championships and clutch game wins. He played 6/7 less seasons than LeBron. Michael Jordan won 3 in a row. LeBron never even two-peated.”

Brooks may be right in his assessment of Jordan and James in the department of winning titles. But if the overall in-game stats are considered, James comes out as the more efficient one.
In the regular season, the Lakers’ star has shot 50.7% from the field, while Jordan shot 49.7%. Even in the playoffs, James has shot 49.5% from the field compared to Jordan’s 48.7%.
James has also been a better 3-point shooter than MJ in his career. Nevertheless, the most shocking part about Brooks’ “James never two peated” claim is that it’s completely false. ‘King James’ was part of the Miami Heat side, which won the NBA title consecutively in 2012 and 2013.
In the Lakers’ elimination game against the Thunder, Dillon Brooks showed up and took a courtside seat right behind the baseline. If there was any doubt that he was there just to support his Canadian teammates on the Thunder, Brooks cleared the doubt after a video of him laughing at James went viral on social media.
But former NBA player Patrick Beverley was far from being impressed with Brooks. Instead, the former Laker said that showing up to support a team that eliminated him from the playoffs made Brooks look more petty than a villain.
“I understand a villain, and I understand people like to take these roles and live by them, but that ain’t it. That ain’t give me the type of energy real dogs have,” Beverley remarked.
“Just for the respect of the game. You my op, you my op. Why I got to sit here and look at you, and I’m out of the playoffs too? I done got eliminated by a team that’s currently playing,” Beverley continued. “You’re not seeing me. I’m working on my game. I’m working on my body. I’m working on my craft. I can’t believe you sitting courtside like that.”
Brooks had denied that he disrespects LeBron James. However, as much as Brooks likes his villain role, he needs to do more on the basketball court.
Do you agree with Patrick Beverley? Also, what would you like to say about Brooks highlighting an incorrect stat about James?
