For those who almost immediately shipped Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Boston Celtics and included Jaylen Brown in the whole trade package, only parts of this were true.
As long as any claim lacks a credible validation, Brown is not going anywhere, at least this is what the Celtics front office has to say. According to Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe, the Celtics are not actively shopping the superstar shooting guard and are instead exploring ways to acquire Antetokounmpo without including the former Finals MVP in a deal.
That stance dramatically changes the conversation around a potential blockbuster trade with the Milwaukee Bucks. For weeks, league speculation centered around Brown being the obvious centerpiece in any Giannis-to-Boston scenario.

The contracts line up almost perfectly financially, and rival executives widely assumed Milwaukee would demand an established superstar in return. But the Bucks reportedly prefer a package built around younger players, draft capital, and long-term flexibility rather than building around Brown at age 29.
That reality already complicated negotiations. Boston’s reluctance to move the five-time NBA All-Star adds another major obstacle. Whereas the Celtics would likely need to involve a third team willing to absorb Brown while sending Milwaukee the picks and younger assets it wants.
And honestly, that is significantly more difficult than a straightforward two-team swap. Meanwhile, betting markets are beginning to cool on the possibility of Antetokounmpo landing in Boston. Giannis being traded to the Celtics reportedly dropped to 39% on Kalshi as uncertainty around negotiations continues to grow.
Additionally, Miami still looms as Boston’s biggest competition. The Heat have consistently targeted the Greek Freak for months, and team sources indicate Miami remains one of the most aggressive teams pursuing the two-time MVP.
While amid an otherwise uncertain future outlook, Jaylen Brown finally addressed the swirling trade speculation surrounding the Celtics. Rumors have constantly centered around the Boston star over the last week as analysts continue to link the team to a potential blockbuster trade for Giannis.
Because of salary-matching rules, Brown’s supermax contract would almost certainly need to be included in any realistic deal for Antetokounmpo. While reports continue to suggest Boston has not formally offered him, his name has remained heavily tied to speculation around the league.
Brown, however, does not appear distracted by the noise. During a livestream Sunday night, the 2024 NBA Champion expressed confidence about where his game is heading entering next season.
“I feel confident in the sense where I’m coming into my physicality, my mental game, my weaknesses are turning into my strengths,” he said. “You have not seen the best version of Jaylen Brown. I look forward to next season, we’ll see where the chips fall.”
The Celtics forward is coming off another elite season in which he earned All-NBA honors while posting career highs in both scoring efficiency and assists. Just two years removed from winning NBA Finals MVP, Brown remains one of the league’s premier two-way wings.
