New details emerge about Michael Jordan’s role with NBC

Michael Jordan’s new role with NBC will be limited, and a report suggests it will not necessarily be live, either.

NBC has announced that Jordan will join the network’s NBA coverage as a “special contributor.” However, very little has been revealed about what the job will entail, even at ongoing network upfronts.

According to Alex Sherman of CNBC, Jordan’s role with the network is still “nebulous” even internally, and details are still changing. The initial plan is for Jordan to contribute analysis in the form of taped segments that will air during pregame or halftime shows.

Jordan’s role could still evolve over time. For the moment, however, it does not appear that there are any plans to make him a regular contributor.

Jordan’s thoughts on the modern game should be interesting, even if he only appears on a limited basis. We know that Jordan still follows the game, as modern players reach out to him, but he rarely shares his thoughts publicly.

Generally, Jordan has kept a low profile since retirement, and his NBA appearances have become even more sporadic since his sale of the Charlotte Hornets in 2023. This suggests that could be changing, albeit on a limited basis.
