After weeks of anticipation, the winner of the Kevin Durant trade sweepstakes was revealed on Sunday, hours before Game 7 of the NBA Finals.
While over half a dozen teams were in the mix for the services of the two-time NBA Finals MVP who turns 37 in September, the Phoenix Suns preferred the package offered by the Houston Rockets.
The Rockets ended up sending Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick and five additional second-round picks in exchange for the 15-time NBA All-Star.
One team that found itself spurned when things were all said and done was the Miami Heat. They were viewed as the favorites to land Durant in the build-up to Sunday, but behind the scenes, the Heat were not willing to part with a handful of key youngsters.
As revealed by ESPN's Shams Charania, the package that the Suns were hoping to get centered around Jaime Jaquez Jr. or Nikola Jovic was a no-go for Miami.
"The Heat made multiple offers for Durant but ultimately turned down the opportunity to place Jaime Jaquez Jr., Nikola Jovic, Haywood Highsmith, the No. 20 pick and other draft assets in a deal, sources said," wrote Charania.
Aside from the aforementioned players, Charania also confirmed what had been uttered throughout South Beach, which was that the Heat would not part with NBA All-Rookie Second Team selection Kel'el Ware.
It's unclear what the Heat will do with the draft approaching and Durant no longer on the market, but they may be in desperation mode after Sunday's events.
