The New Orleans Pelicans are heading into a new era of basketball with president Joe Dumars taking over the team.
Dumars formerly served as the Vice-President of the NBA, but made the move to New Orleans to take over the role as the president of the franchise.
His first few months have already led to a lot of big moves, including trading away their next year’s first-round pick to draft Derik Queen 13th overall in the 2025 NBA Draft.
Another big decision the New Orleans Pelicans made was to draft Jeremiah Fears as the seventh overall pick.
The University of Oklahoma player has already made some headlines with his NBA Summer League performances.
After showing a glimpse of his talent, Fears made a strong statement about what he expects in the future.
Fears put up big numbers for Oklahoma, averaging 17 points and four assists in the NCAA tournament.
His exploits there helped him climb up draft places and get picked by New Orleans.
The 18-year-old has put up some great numbers in the Summer League and this has been noticed by his coach as well.
Fears was recently interviewed by ESPN’s Dave McMenamin and his comments there show the confidence he has in his game.
“I would say top two point guards of all-time, just bring a lot to the table, just bring a lot to the table and just continue to show everybody what I’m capable of every time I step on the floor and just focus on the game ahead of me and the practice that’s ahead of me,” Fears added.

Fears will be part of the Pelicans roster that already has guards like Jordan Poole and Dejounte Murray.
Poole was one of his player comparisons in the pre-draft process. He certainly can learn a lot from them as both Poole and Murray have been a part of great teams.
Fears is confident in his approach and can do everything as a point guard. He is a good scorer and does his best to make plays, but one thing that he needs to work on is reducing the number of turnovers.
The Oklahoma player averaged 3.4 turnovers in the NCAA tournament, which is understandable for a player in college. In the two Summer League games, Fears has scored 14 and 15 points respectively.

However, he has combined for 10 turnovers in these games, which is not great at an NBA level.
This is expected to improve as he plays more games in the league.
Fears certainly has a lot of talent, but efficiency and turnovers are evident problems in his game.
If he works on them and learns from his veterans, Fears will be a brilliant player to watch.
