New Team Reportedly Joins the Mix as Potential Trade Suitor for Kings' De'Aaron Fox

The Sacramento Kings are a team to keep an eye on as the NBA trade deadline approaches.

After acquiring DeMar DeRozan in the offseason, the Kings were expected to be one of the top teams in the Western Conference this season with their new big three of DeRozan, De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis. Instead, they currently hold a 13-17 record and sit outside of the playoff picture in the West.

Because of this, they are expected to be active in the trade market to upgrade their roster to try and turn their season around a make a late playoff push. If that ends up not happening, they could end up being a seller at the deadline.

One Kings’ player who could be on the move this season is Fox. The 27-year-old point guard is signed through the 2025-26 season, but he already declined a contract extension from Sacramento.

Fox mentioned on Draymond Green’s podcast last week that he would love to play his entire career with the Kings, but he also wants to win. With the Kings not doing much winning this season, there is speculation from front offices around the NBA that Fox could end up asking out before the Feb. 6 trade deadline.

Forbes’ Evan Sidery reported last week that the San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets are among the franchises monitoring Fox’s availability, but another team has also reportedly joined the mix.

On Wednesday, Sidery reported that the Miami Heat could be a potential trade suitor for Fox. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Jimmy Butler prefers to be traded before the deadline, and Sidery reported that Miami has been searching for a star on a similar timeline as Bam Adebayo, which could lead them to dealing for Fox.

With the Kings fighting for their playoff lives, if they are unable to turn their season around before the trade deadline or make a move to upgrade their roster, Fox might be on the move this season. With Sidery’s report, expect the Heat to pursue him if Sacramento makes him available.
