The New York Knicks are in for a busy summer, as they must find their next head coach following the surprising dismissal of Tom Thibodeau while searching for reinforcements in the trade and free agency markets.
According to James Edwards III of The Athletic, the New York Knicks should target Luke Kennard in free agency because the team “desperately” needs what he brings to the table.
“However, there are a couple of names I think the Knicks should consider and have had rumblings about considering. The first one is Luke Kennard,” Edwards wrote in his column.
“The soon-to-be 29-year-old is one of the best shooters in basketball and also sneakily could be a secondary or tertiary ballhandler for New York, which desperately needs that skill set on its roster. Over the last five seasons, Kennard has made at least 43 percent of his 3s while also attempting at least four per game. He’s a sniper. Plain and simple,” he added.
In the same mailbag article, James Edwards III said the team might not have the same lineup next season because of Mikal Bridges , OG Anunoby, and Karl-Anthony Towns’ contracts. However, he expects Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart to stay.
“I think there’s a 40 percent chance one of the ‘usual starters’ isn’t on the roster opening night,” Edwards stated.
“Anunoby and Towns are very good players, but both guys have lengthy deals – and have dealt with injuries throughout their careers. If you told me New York might try to get off of one of those, I wouldn’t be totally surprised,” he added.
