New York Knicks Fans Are Delusional As Hell

NEW YORK, N.Y. — The New York Knicks enter their first-round matchup with the Atlanta Hawks as one of the more heavily favored teams in the Eastern Conference bracket, with Vegas listing them around -300 to advance.

On paper, it makes sense. A No. 3 seed with one of the league’s better defensive identities, strong home-court energy, and a roster that has spent the season earning respect the hard way.

But as the hype machine in New York ramps up, the narrative around the series has taken a familiar turn: confidence is starting to sound less like preparation for a first-round battle and more like scheduling conflicts for Round 2.

That mindset hasn’t gone unnoticed outside the market.

The Knicks fanbase — long accustomed to living on emotional swings from “this is our year” to “we’re so back” in the span of 48 hours — has already begun treating routine playoff expectations as symbolic victories. A defensive stop becomes a statement. A Game 1 win becomes a preview of an Eastern Conference Finals run. A solid quarter becomes evidence of destiny.

Meanwhile, the Hawks arrive in their usual postseason role: underestimated, loosely discussed, and more than comfortable operating without the spotlight.

Atlanta has spent recent playoff appearances playing the spoiler, most notably during its 2021 run that disrupted the Eastern Conference hierarchy and left more than a few fanbases prematurely mapping out celebration parades.

That history tends to linger quietly in the background — even if the present conversation has already moved on.

For New York, the challenge won’t be convincing anyone they’re the better team on paper. That part is already decided. The real test is surviving the gap between expectation and execution — the space where playoff series tend to get interesting.

Because nothing ages worse in the NBA than early confidence built on future rounds that haven’t been earned yet.

And the Hawks, as always, are unlikely to care about the storyline.

Knicks fans are down right delusional. This series is going at least six.

The Hawks are hot. They might be a year away as a true contender, but they are a damn good basketball team without Trae Young. Just watch.
