New York Knicks' Tom Thibodeau Sends Clear Message to Sports Writers and Bloggers

Tom Thibodeau, forgive us! In the two games between the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, the Knicks have come back from down 20 points in the third quarter in each contest to win, and sports writers, bloggers, journalists, and posters have taken that storyline and ran with it.

Shame on us!

Thibodeau, of course, is just as impressed with the resolve of his team as the rest of us, although he's seen firsthand how the NBA has changed.

One criticism of the league in recent years has been the barrage of 3-pointers that has taken over offenses. In years past, fans complained that the final, often meaningless minutes took too long, although the 3-point revolution has made blowouts easier to overcome.

The Knicks are a prime example of that.

"I think just the way the game goes now, you can make up ground, I think, a lot quicker, you know, with the way teams shoot 3s," outlined Thibodeau. "I know, like, for the writers who are around us, they always think every lead is safe, but it's not, and so everything does matter."

Writers at ESPN, the Athletic, NBA.com, and yes, Athlon Sports, have fallen victim to the "it's over" narrative on more than one occasion.

In Game 1, New York Daily News' Kristain Winfield declared the game over, and was called out by Josh Hart.

In the 1990s and 2000s, before the 3-pointer was popularized, a 15-point lead was a safe, eight-possession game. Now it's only five possessions, and teams are playing faster and scoring more than ever before.
