The Golden State Warriors’ roster has started to stack up after their offseason-long stalemate with young star Jonathan Kuminga finally ended. They already announced the signings of Al Horford and De’Anthony Melton, but to add to their depth, the Dubs made another major move right before the start of training camp. ESPN’s Shams Charania announced Tuesday that Seth Curry is joining the Warriors on a one-year deal.

This will be the 35-year-old’s second stint with the franchise as he first played for the Warriors in 2013, though it was only during the preseason. The younger of the two Curry brothers played for the Charlotte Hornets last season, averaging 6.5 points while shooting 45.6% from three-point range. Among all the active players in the NBA, the 35-year-old has the second best three-point shooting percentage at 43.3%.

Literally a Splash Bros Reunion

Being the younger brother of Stephen Curry is not easy, but the former Duke guard has done well to make a name for himself in the league. He played for nine teams prior to his stint with the Warriors and has been a valuable player throughout his career. His ability to shoot threes at a high volume while also playing defense is one of the reasons Curry still finds himself on an NBA roster.

The two brothers  have never shared a locker room, and the prospect of it happening was always looming despite the franchise having loaded up on veterans.

With the departure of Klay Thompson, the Warriors lost a three-point shooting presence that could take games away from their opponents. While Seth is not as game-changing as Thompson was even after his injury, he has qualities that can help the Warriors. Even without Thompson, the Warriors had the second most attempted threes in the league last season. Now this may make it seem like adding a shooter should not have been a priority in the offseason, but the Warriors needed all the depth they could find as injuries were a major problem for them last season.

The Last Word

What this move also does is bring two of the best shooters in the NBA together and further elevate the Dubs offense. While Steph will command more of the attention, leaving Seth open is not going to be a decision any team would want to make. He has shot 45% or more from the three-point line six times in his career and also been a starter on good teams.

With players like Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green also on the roster, the Curry brothers will have a lot of chances from beyond the arc, and it will be interesting to see how they work together as a duo.

Steph has always been used to playing next to a brilliant three-point shooter, and Seth is exactly that. The two have battled against each other many times, but it will be a joy to watch them play on the same team after all these years.
