NFL Legend Michael Irvin Faces Backlash Over Bizarre Behavior Toward Anthony Edwards

The Minnesota Timberwolves entered Thursday night’s must-win game against the Golden State Warriors after dropping Game 1 on their home court. They responded in dominant fashion, defeating the Warriors 117-93 to even the series at 1-1.

While the Timberwolves celebrated their victory postgame, it was an awkward interaction between Anthony Edwards and NFL legend Michael Irvin sitting courtside that captured the most attention.

Irvin, who had greeted Edwards with a handshake and posed for a picture with him, then went in for an unexpected kiss on the cheek after the photo was taken. The moment quickly went viral on social media.

Although Irvin is known for his energetic and affectionate personality, his actions sparked backlash from some fans, who felt the moment was overly awkward.

Fan reactions:

"You can tell Ant wasn’t expecting that & he’s pissed," a fan said.

"Bruh if you don’t know me like dat don’t think you can just kiss me like you my pops or sum," another fan posted.

Someone else added, "that’s so weird does he even know him like that."

One more fan commented, "Irvin was feeling like a proud Father but Ant not his son so he can't be doin that."

Despite sustaining an ankle injury during the game, Anthony Edwards played through it and finished strong, recording 20 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and three steals.

While speculation swirled around the interaction between Irvin and Edwards, there doesn’t appear to be any notable history between the two—no close friendship or family connection. Still, Edwards showed nothing but respect for the Hall of Fame Cowboys wide receiver following the win.

"That's OG, man," Edwards said. "I love him, for sure."
