The Chicago Bulls are awaiting the Nic Claxton’s season debut. He continues to recover from a hamstring injury and has missed the first four games. An update about his status was announced on Monday.
Claxton landed with the Bulls as part of a six-team trade that sent Julius Randle and Joshua Jefferson to the Brooklyn Nets in July. He will take on a prominent role with his new team as it brought him for more ceiling and rim protection. The seventh-year center spent the first six seasons of his career with the Nets, establishing himself as a solid two-way player.
His best season came in 2022-23. Claxton averaged a career-high 12.6 points, along with 9.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 2.5 blocks per game. Chicago addressed its need for big men in the offseason by also drafting Caleb Wilson at No. 4 overall.
Reports emerged that Claxton has progressed with his recovery and started working out by himself. It’s a huge step to his imminent return, and he could join his teammates in practice starting next week.
Nic Claxton worked out individually this morning in Boston and the hope is he can start practicing with the team next week.

Chicago is 1-3 after losing to the Boston Celtics on Monday. The team was blown out at TD Garden 134-99 and also lost by a huge margin in the season opener versus the Toronto Raptors. The Bulls made unwanted history last Wednesday with their 43-point defeat.
The team hopes that Claxton will be a difference maker once he suits up. He brings a lot of experience to the table and could also serve as a veteran locker room leader along with Noman Powell. It’s also interesting to see how he’ll perform next to Wilson, who has been a bright spot for Chicago so far this season. The Bulls will return to action on Wednesday when they host the New York Knicks at the United Center.
