Nikola Jokic is one of the nine players in NBA history to win three or more MVP awards. This puts him in an elite group of sport-defining talents like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan, and LeBron James, to name a few.

And despite his greatness, the Serbian star is the last person to take all the credit for his own success, as the 2021 NBA champion humbly deflected it to his teammates when he was asked about what it took to win an MVP award in the hyper-competitive league.

“I think you have to have a good group of guys who support you,” Nikola Jokic said. “You need to have good chemistry and guys who trust you. So to get the MVP, I think you need to have a great group of guys with you.”

In the last five seasons, Jokic has been the most dominant player in the NBA. A league that has historically been dominated by peak athleticism, the Denver Nuggets star turned the tide with his cerebral game and found more success than he would have even anticipated.

During this span, he has won three MVP awards and finished 2nd in the other two years. The star Serbian hooper was set for his fourth MVP award this time around as well, but a sudden injury derailed what was set to be a historic season.

And while Nikola Jokic is averaging a triple-double and is on the verge of passing Oscar Robertson in seasons with triple-doubles, even he agrees that his season has been consistent.

Nikola Jokic gives an Honest Opinion on the Current Season

While Jokic has been going on a dominant run despite his injury and its setbacks, the Nuggets star’s season almost certainly will not meet the fate it was set on when the year began. Jokic was leading the MVP vote in the first half of the season, and then the injury happened.

To the uninformed, Nikola Jokic suffered a knee injury in late December, which kept him out of action for around a month. And as the regular season nears its end, the Joker admitted that his season hasn’t been very consistent.

“I think for me, it was a little bit inconsistent,” the Nuggets star said. “Just because injury, and then it was the first time I was coming back from (an) injury. So the turnovers and good games are gonna happen; bad games, bad missed shots are gonna happen. But it was just something new for me. I will say inconsistent.”

The Denver Nuggets also took some time to revive their rhythm when Nikola Jokic returned in January, as they lost three consecutive games, just one game after his return.

That being said, the Nuggets seem to be back on track. winning won six back-to-back games, but it seems like Jokic still needs time to get back into his best form.
