No Sign Cavs Seriously Offered Darius Garland For Kevin Durant

One report says the Cavaliers offered Darius Garland in trade talks with the Phoenix Suns for Kevin Durant and now it’s everywhere (including this very website). But I doubt it actually happened.

Several league sources told me that talks never got to the point where the Cavaliers put an official offer on the table. They instead likely just asked what the Suns were seeking in exchange for Durant.

Talks between the Cavs and Suns involving Durant were “incredibly exploratory,” one source said. Another described it as a “feeling-out process more than anything.”

None of it matters now, of course, as Durant was traded to the Houston Rockets in a whopper of a deal that sent Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks and five second-round picks to Phoenix.

As for the Cavaliers and their involvement, it seems incredibly minimal. They did emerge as a suitor, but again, it sure doesn’t appear as if they were a serious suitor.

Garland could be traded this offseason, but I doubt it. The Cavs aren’t feeling desperate to move him. Even if his name does come up in talks, sources say it’s doubtful the Cavs would get what they seek in return.

As always, talks at this time of year are taking place — but way overstated. Contending teams aren’t often looking to shake up their core. They merely want to add reinforcements. You have all the way to February to make a deal.

I have a pretty good reason to believe that is the approach being taken by the Cavaliers.
