The Denver Nuggets are on a roll, winning three straight games after losing their regular season opener. While superstar Nikola Jokic has gotten off to a strong start, so has Jamal Murray, Denver’s point guard. Murray has continued operating as the perfect fit alongside Jokic with his elite shot creation off the dribble and playmaking abilities.

Throughout his first four games this year, the 28-year-old has posted 27.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 6.0 assists while shooting 50.0% from the field and 41.4% from 3-point range. He is currently leading the Nuggets in scoring and has been incredibly efficient in his shot selection to start the season. Denver remains a title contender in the Western Conference after a roster overhaul in the offseason.

As the Nuggets prepare for Friday’s matchup with the Portland Trail Blazers, Murray’s name has appeared on the injury report for the first time this season. Denver announced their official report to the NBA on Thursday, listing Murray as questionable with left calf tightness.

“Injury Report ahead of tomorrow's game against the Trail Blazers: PROBABLE: Cameron Johnson (Right Shoulder Inflammation) QUESTIONABLE: Jamal Murray (Left Calf Tightness) #MileHighBasketball,” the team wrote on X.

Fortunately, Cameron Johnson is listed as probable, suggesting he could take on a heavier workload if Murray is unable to play. However, Johnson has not matched Murray’s strong offensive start to the season.

Murray is in his ninth season with the Nuggets after being selected seventh overall in the 2016 NBA Draft. He played a key role in Denver’s championship run in 2023, winning his first NBA Finals. While Murray has yet to collect many individual accolades, he has emerged as an early frontrunner to make his first All-Star appearance.

A big reason for his lack of recognition has been injury, and his lingering calf issues remain a concern. He has dealt with left calf soreness throughout his career, most recently during the 2024 NBA Playoffs. His status will continue to be monitored. If he is unable to suit up for Friday’s game, his next opportunity would come Monday at home against the Sacramento Kings.
