Nuggets Coach Raises Concerns on Star's Injury Before Game 7

Few players have had an impact on the postseason for the Denver Nuggets quite like forward Aaron Gordon. While it's MVP center Nikola Jokic who continually puts up big numbers, and guard Jamal Murray who is the team's star wildcard, Gordon has been a consistent--and clutch--performer throughout the team's current playoff run.

In the postseason, Gordon has averaged 17.6 points and 7.3 rebounds, on 49.4% shooting from the field and 39.2% shooting from the 3-point line, leading into Denver's do-or-die Game 6 at home.

But Gordon came up with a hamstring injury on Thursday, meaning that even with Denver pulling out a convincing 119-107 win to send the series to a decisive Game 7, the already thin Nuggets could be looking at playing without one of their most consistent contributors.

That game will be played Sunday, giving the Nuggets two days off. That's a blessing for a team that has suited up every other day for the past 17 days, especially with Gordon's injury.

As ESPN's Tim MacMahon wrote on Twitter/X: "Nuggets interim coach David Adelman says concern about Aaron Gordon’s hamstring is 'high,' but he didn’t know any specifics. Noted it’s a great time to have two days between games."

Gordon appeared to suffer the injury with just under two minutes to play and the Nuggets leading, 111-102 in the game. He grabbed his hamstring as he walked up the court. It was a tough ending for a tough night for Gordon, who scored five points on 2-for-7 shooting, but added seven assists and five rebounds.

Adelman did say that this Denver team is especially resilient, which is obviously true as a team that has been through a Game 7 already (in the opening round) and withstood the firing of its coach three games before the season's end.

“Hyper focused. Hyper honest with one another. Hyper honest with themselves …people who find excuses and point all over the room usually fail,” Adelman said.

Game 7 is scheduled for Sunday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
