Nuggets Face Massive Nikola Jokic Decision This Offseason

The Denver Nuggets have been one of the most active teams in the NBA this summer as they have made multiple moves to upgrade their roster.

Denver’s offseason started by naming David Adelman as their new head coach as they removed the interim tag from his title and they then promoted Ben Tenzer and hired Jon Wallace in their front office.

Of course, the Nuggets did not hold a selection in the 2025 NBA Draft as their focus shifted to free agency and the trade market.

With their first move of the summer, the Nuggets sent Michael Porter Jr. and a 2032 first-round pick to the Brooklyn Nets for Cameron Johnson and then followed that up by trading Dario Saric to the Sacramento Kings for Jonas Valanciunas.

Denver then signed Bruce Brown and Tim Hardaway Jr. in free agency to upgrade their bench.

While the Nuggets have been busy thus far in the offseason, they are now facing a massive decision regarding their superstar center Nikola Jokic.

According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, Jokic is eligible for a three-year, $212 million contract extension starting on Wednesday, July 8.

With Jokic becoming eligible for the extension on Wednesday, it is likely that the two sides will agree on a new deal in the coming weeks, or potentially as soon as Wednesday when he is eligible as the Nuggets try to lock up their superstar for the foreseeable future.

Jokic is already a three-time MVP winner and helped lead the Nuggets to a championship in 2023 while taking home Finals MVP.

Last season, the 30-year-old star center averaged 29.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, 10.2 assists and 1.8 steals per game while shooting 57.6% from the field and 41.7% from three-point range.

This was arguably the best season of his career as he became just the third player in NBA history to average a triple-double throughout an entire season, though he finished second in the MVP race to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

Now the Nuggets will look to lock up Jokic with a new contract this offseason as they try to chase another championship next season with him leading the way.
