Multiple outlets reported on Wednesday that Denver Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr. would clear his coronavirus-related quarantine period with time to spare ahead of Thursday night's game against the Dallas Mavericks.
However, the Nuggets confirmed on Thursday afternoon that Porter will remain unavailable due to the league's health and safety protocols and won't play against Dallas.
Porter hasn't taken the court since he recorded 30 points and 10 rebounds in a 125-115 loss to the Sacramento Kings back on Dec. 29. He has already missed a game against the Phoenix Suns and back-to-back contests versus the Minnesota Timberwolves.
After losing four of five to start the season, Denver tallied two straight victories over Minnesota to improve to 3-4 on the campaign. Porter's status for Saturday's game at the Philadelphia 76ers is unknown heading into Friday.
The Nuggets play at the New York Knicks on Sunday.
Porter, 22, remains third on the team with 19.5 points and second with 6.8 rebounds and a 26.45 player efficiency rating. It's believed Will Barton (11.3 PPG) will continue to see additional playing time during Porter's absence.
Barton scored 20 points in Tuesday's win over Minnesota.
