2024-25 featured one of the best NBA MVP races in NBA history. Nikola Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander both delivered tremendous campaigns that forced voters to think long and hard about their decision.
The NBA announced that decision would be revealed on Wednesday night. However, Shams Charania could not help but break the news a little bit early.

The NBA insider announced on Twitter/X that his sources have told him Gilgeous-Alexander will be taking home the NBA MVP award for the 2024-25 campaign. It is the first MVP of the young superstar's career.
The NBA has yet to officially announce the complete voting results for this year's MVP award. However, the safe assumption would be Jokic finishing second in the race.
Giannis Antetokounmpo was the other finalist for the award. It would be a genuine stunner to see the Milwaukee Bucks superstar break up the expected top two of voting.
When it is officially confirmed that Jokic finished second, the Denver Nuggets superstar will be the first player since Larry Bird to have finished inside of the top two in MVP voting for five consecutive season, according to StatMuse.
That feat, in itself, is incredibly impressive for the three-time MVP. However, it oddly serves as a reminder of the type of voter fatigue the best player in the world has faced in recent seasons.
There is a solid argument to be made for the idea that Jokic should have claimed five MVPs in a row during this dominant individual run. Narratives have kept brilliant statistical seasons, well-deserving of the award, from securing those honors.
Jokic joins several all-time greats like Michael Jordan and LeBron James in simply being way too good at what they do for their own good.
