The Denver Nuggets have had a solid season thus far, but they are still expected to make some moves ahead of the Feb. 6 trade deadline to upgrade their roster.
Denver currently holds a 26-16 record, which has them sitting fourth in the Western Conference standings. After a somewhat of a slow start to the season, they have recently once again looked like a championship contender as they have won 10 of their last 13 games.
Of course, Nikola Jokić has led the way for Denver this season as he currently finds himself in the MVP race once again, but other players have stepped up as well during their recent hot streak. Jamal Murray has finally broken out of his cold streak and Russell Westbrook has revitalized his career in his first season in Denver.
While the Nuggets have been better over the past month, they are still looking to upgrade their roster before the trade deadline. One player they have expressed interest in is Bruce Brown of the Toronto Raptors.
According to ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, the Nuggets have been interested in reuniting with Brown. Siegel also noted that Toronto could buyout Brown if the Raptors cannot find a trade for him, but Denver would have a tough path bringing him in due to them being over the second apron.
Of course, Brown was a key contributor on the Nuggets during their title run during the 2022-23 season. The 28-year-old was a major part of the Nuggets’ success off the bench, and they have missed his production over the past few seasons.
While Denver has expressed interest in reuniting with Brown, it will be difficult like Siegel mentioned. The Nuggets would have to either trade for him or wait and see if the Raptors buy him out, but either way they would have to move Zeke Nnaji’s contract in order to take on Brown’s salary.
If Denver ends up trading for him, they would also likely have to include Michael Porter Jr. in the deal, so it may be wiser for them to wait and see if he is bought out by Toronto.
Either way, reuniting with the former champion would be a great move for the Nuggets, especially with their poor bench play this season.
