Veteran point guard Tyus Jones is headed to a contender.
Jones plans to sign with the Denver Nuggets, his agent Kevin Bradbury told ESPN’s Shams Charania. Denver had one open standard roster spot and will use it on the 11-year veteran.
Jones was waived by the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday and retained playoff eligibility because he was released before Sunday’s deadline. His deal with Denver will cover the remainder of the season at a prorated veteran’s minimum.
Known for his steady play and low turnover rate, Jones owns career averages of 7.3 points and 4.3 assists in 738 games. He has spent time with Minnesota, Memphis, Washington, Phoenix, Orlando and Dallas.
This season has been uneven. After beginning the year with Orlando, Jones bounced through multiple trades before appearing in eight games with Dallas.
