Porter Jr. averaged 18.2 points and 7.0 rebounds on 50.4% shooting last season. The problem wasn’t his season, it was his playoff play.
Porter Jr.’s points average dropped to 9.1 per game, his rebounding average dropped to 5.5 per game, and he shot just 39.2% from the field.
Last season, Cam Johnson averaged 18.8 points and 4.3 rebounds per game on 47.5% shooting. Unfortunately for Johnson, the Nets failed to reach the postseason.
The Nuggets ended up having a disappointing season last year, as they fizzled out down the stretch of the season. On February 20, the Nuggets were 37-19. In the final 26 games, Denver went 13-13.
Denver ended up firing head coach Michael Malone on April 8, and the Nuggets lost in seven games to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round.
The Nuggets knew it was time for a change and trading Porter Jr. was the right choice. This likely won’t be their last trade, so stay tuned.
