The New York Knicks could decide to pull the plug on their experiment with Tyler Kolek after they landed Malcolm Brogdon.
After the New York Knicks signed Malcolm Brogdon, it appears that their roster for the upcoming 2025-26 NBA season is complete.
However, the Knicks are reportedly looking to move on from another one of their point guards – Tyler Kolek.
Kolek had impressed Knicks fans with his performances during last season. And this summer, Kolek did well at the Summer League.
But despite showing steady improvement over the last year, the Knicks are open to moving him ahead of the new season.
Tyler Kolek has performed quite well with the New York Knicks. But with the arrival of Malcolm Brogdon, Kolek has become surplus to requirements.
According to Kris Pursiainen of Clutch Points, the Knicks will contemplate trading Tyler Kolek this offseason to give him more opportunities. In fact, one NBA team has already reached out for a trade.
“Jalen Brunson, Miles ‘Deuce’ McBride, and new additions in Jordan Clarkson and Brogdon would give the team depth at guard.
“This could logjam incoming second-year guard Tyler Kolek behind the group of veteran ball handlers. Moving Kolek could afford the 24-year-old opportunity that he would not get in New York.
“At least one opposing team has demonstrated interest in Kolek this offseason, ClutchPoints also learned.”
Tyler Kolek is a potential trade candidate for the Knicks, and they’ve already received an offer from another team, per @krispursiainen

Prior to being dismissed, Tom Thibodeau had made a sincere effort to give Tyler Kolek more minutes and help him develop.
Thibodeau praised Kolek last season, saying that he had shown some slow and steady improvement over the course of the season.
“Just steady improvement, he’s learning, getting better every game, he made a lot of good plays… When everybody starts helping each other, the game is a lot easier.”
It’s clear that if Thibodeau were still the Knicks’ head coach, Kolek might have had more of a future with the franchise.
For now, Kolek isn’t guaranteed to be traded. However, given the Knicks’ dire cap situation, he might be on the move sooner rather than later.
