The Oklahoma City Thunder needs Jalen Williams at his best to have a strong chance of beating the Denver Nuggets in Game 7 at home later. The one-time NBA All-Star is shooting 33.7 percent from the field and 21,2 percent from three-point range in the second round.
His inefficiency reared its ugly head in Game 6, where he posted six points on 3-for-16 shooting. Williams said during the postgame press conference that he had been dealing with a lingering wrist injury but refuses to use it as an excuse.
“We’ve all seen the tape on my hand,” Williams said. “That’s not anything new for this series. So, it hasn’t affected anything that’s going on.”
“We’ve been big on saying it’s first to four. So, obviously, in this game, you have to be willing to wipe the slate clean. “I don’t think anybody on our team really cares about the game after we play. The next game we’ll go up, and it’s going to be 0-0, and we’re gonna have to play another really good game. So, I think that’s how I think about it. That’s how the team thinks about it. And yeah, just be ready to bounce back,” he added.
Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander addressed Jalen Williams’ shooting woes during the same postgame press conference. The league MVP candidate is confident Williams will regain his form just in time for Game 7.
“That’s life. That’s basketball. Tonight wasn’t his night, clearly. The best part about it all is he has an opportunity to change all that. He has a big game next game. Nobody remembers, nobody cares. He doesn’t either,” Gilgeous-Alexander said about Williams.
“So, yeah, get ready for the next opportunity. Like I always tell the guys, there’s always something ahead of you. And learn from your experiences, which he has done a great job of all year. So, I don’t worry about that,” he added.
