The Sacramento Kings had a disastrous season in 2024-25 which saw them go through a lot of changes.
The Sacramento Kings fired their head coach Mike Brown and brought in Doug Christie to replace him.
They also traded De’Aaron Fox to the Spurs in a three-team deal, which landed them Zach LaVine. However, the Kings couldn’t get it going towards the end of the season and they were eliminated in the Play-In Tournament by the Dallas Mavericks.
The Kings’ main move in the offseason was signing Dennis Schroder to be their new starting point guard.
The Kings’ projected starting lineup for this season will be: Dennis Schroder, Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, Keegan Murray and Domantas Sabonis.
There has been a lot of talk about how far this team can realistically go and if they are stuck in the middle.
There is a lot of pressure on the Kings to perform at a high level this season with this group.
Specifically, Teague thinks a lot of that pressure falls on Sabonis and suggests he needs more help.
“I see a four person picture, Dennis, Zach, DeMar, Sabonis, them four is a solid four, they just got to figure out that fifth piece that they need.
“I think they got a chance to have a good group, but it’s a lot of pressure on Sabonis to be dynamic. He got to get all the rebounds for that small team.
“DeMar, Zach and Dennis they all guards 6’5 and under, and then you got Sabonis at 6’10.
“[Keegan] Murray I think he’s good, but I think they need somebody else in that position.”
Under new general manager Scott Perry and assistant GM B.J. Armstrong, the expectation was that big moves would be made and the Kings would blow it up during the offseason.
However, the Kings stood pat and will enter the 2025-26 season with essentially the same roster as last season. The hope is that the Kings will bounce back under coach Christie.
However, one has to think that if the Kings stumble out of the gate or are once again a .500 team that they could make some major changes to signal a rebuild.
Sabonis has been in the rumor mill before and if the Kings do decide to start over, he figures to be the next big player to be moved.
