With LeBron James taking his talents to the City of Brotherly Love, the biggest story of the NBA offseason is finally behind us.
Of course, that doesn't mean the frenzy will stop. If anything, we might see many more moves now that everyone knows where James will play. Considering that, most would agree that DeMar DeRozan is now the biggest name in free agency, and most of the teams that missed out on James might be interested in him.
However, even if that's the case, DeRozan should only be thinking about one thing right now: his legacy. That's why, of all teams, he must sign with the Toronto Raptors.
Even though he was the team's sacrificial lamb to get Kawhi Leonard, and even though they will probably bring Leonard back this coming season, the Raptors should want DeRozan, and vice versa. He's one of the greatest players in franchise history, and he can give them a 20-PPG-type scorer, whether it's starting or coming off the bench.
He was the face of the franchise for most of his prime, and they can do right by him by bringing him back, now that they have championship aspirations again with Leonard presumably back in town. DeRozan had to live in James' shadow for most of his career, but he can still make a Hall of Fame case, and heading back home to finally fulfill his destiny in Toronto would be the best way to preserve his legacy.
