As the NBA trade deadline approached, speculation swirled about the future of Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner. Despite his upcoming free agency, the Pacers kept their defensive anchor, underlining their commitment to making a deep playoff run with their current core.

Pacers general manager Chad Buchanan addressed these trade rumors on the "Setting the Pace" podcast and dismissed them as baseless.

"It's almost comical," Buchanan said. "I'm reading the Myles Turner trade rumors out there at the trade deadline, and I'm just [asking], 'Where in the world do people get this information?' Sometimes we as a front office sit back and laugh because it's unreal where some of this information comes from."

Turner, a pivotal figure for the Pacers, is having a solid season. He averages 15.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks over 30.6 minutes per game. His stretch-five, rim protector skill set has been instrumental in the Pacers' ascent up the standings.

While retaining Turner this offseason could be challenging, especially after awarding a max deal to Pascal Siakam last summer, the Pacers are optimistic about re-signing him. Turner is in the final season of a two-year, $40.9 million contract that will earn him $19.9 million this season.

The speculation surrounding Turner peaked despite his recent absence from the court due to a neck strain, which caused him to miss three games before the All-Star break. However, in his return against the Memphis Grizzlies, Turner contributed significantly to a 127-113 victory.

"It was a little difficult at first," Turner said. "You're trying to find your legs. Mentally, you miss a few shots, and you kinda get down on yourself."

Turner shook off an initial rusty start to dominate the latter stages, scoring 15 points in the second quarter alone and finishing with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and a season-high seven blocks. His presence helped the Pacers set a season-high for points in a quarter, with 50 in the second period.

"He's a very integral part of what we do and why our offense has been so good over these last couple years," Haliburton said. "To get him back really helps."

Turner's continued presence on the Pacers stabilizes their defense and provides a critical scoring and blocking threat that complements Tyrese Haliburton and Siakam's talents.

As Indiana continues its campaign, Turner's role will be crucial in pursuing a deep playoff run in the highly competitive Eastern Conference.
