Pacers Make Trade for Thomas Bryant

After spending the entire season being swept up in NBA trade rumors, the Indiana Pacers are set to trade for Miami Heat center Thomas Bryant. The Pacers' frontcourt was decimated early, with both James Wiseman and Isaiah Jackson tearing their Achilles tendons and being ruled out for the season.

Bryant can't technically be traded until Sunday, December 15, but ESPN Insider Shams Charania has reported that the Pacers will swap second-round picks with the Heat for Bryant.

After waiving Moses Brown, the Pacers have both the roster and cap space to not have to give up a player of their own in the deal. Bryant is signed to a one-year deal worth roughly $2 million, and the 27-year-old center won a ring with the Denver Nuggets in 2023.

In 11 minutes per game this season, Bryant is averaging 4.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks. In Indiana, he will likely play a much larger role behind Myles Turner and his presence will be necessary to turn around the effort in the frontcourt. At present, the Pacers rank 29th in rebounds per game.

Bryant has never been a full-time starter, but in three seasons with the Washington Wizards where he played more than 20 minutes a night, he averaged a solid 11.8 points, 6.6 rebounds, and a block. He is certainly not a floor-spacing center, so occasional lineups with both him and Turner on the floor make sense.

Keep it posted to All Pacers for updates on his fit, contract complications, and what the Pacers should expect from him once he gets situated in Indiana.
