Path For Detroit Pistons to Add Disgruntled NBA Champion Revealed

The Detroit Pistons, depending on how the NBA offseason goes, might need to prioritize adding wing depth this summer. If Tim Hardaway Jr. and Malik Beasley sign elsewhere in free agency, the Pistons will need to add at least one solid scorer around Cade Cunningham

Should the Golden State Warriors cut ties with Jonathan Kuminga, who is clearly expendable, then the Pistons are one of the most sensible landing spots in the entire league.

"The Pistons could also potentially open up enough cap space to get Kuminga, but they would have a tough time bringing back free agents Malik Beasley, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Dennis Schroder if that were the case," reported The Sporting News' Stephen Noh.

"The Warriors thus have a clear edge in keeping Kuminga. The question is if they want to do so. He has more value to other teams than them. There is one win-win scenario for Kuminga and the Warriors. If he negotiates a sign-and-trade with an over-the-cap team, then his pool of suitors will expand beyond the Nets and Pistons. Golden State could negotiate some draft equity and get a useful player back in the deal, and Kuminga could get his money and a better opportunity."

The Nets and Pistons can make the best case to add Kuminga, and with the Pistons' rebuild over, their sales pitch is a lot better.

Kuminga did not play in the Warriors' final regular-season game, their play-in game, or four of their playoff games, and any effort the Dubs make to rebuild the relationship is likely fruitless.
