So far this season, Paul George’s journey has been anything but stable. It was only after the NBA handed the veteran a 25-game suspension for violating the league’s drug policy that he started to show up like vintage PG.
Now that everything is at peace, at least for some time, and as he has started to realize it was actually his mistake. However, time away from active basketball gave him the magic he was missing.
Recently, George credited his suspension for helping him rediscover his All-Star form.
“The time off has really unlocked me and allowed me to play free and to be able to play aggressively,” he said via The Athletic’s Tony Jones. “I don’t want it to get confused: I was healthy, but I needed time for my body to heal and for my body to recover… playing, but the games were coming too fast, and my body wasn’t responding quickly enough. I wanted to keep playing, but I knew that my body needed time.”
Paul George says his 25-game suspension was a "blessing in disguise" for his health.

Fair enough, after returning to action, the veteran forward has looked noticeably sharper, averaging 28.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists while shooting over 51 percent from the field across four games.
Additionally, the stretch also includes a 39-point outing against the Washington Wizards, his highest-scoring performance in a Sixers uniform.
Additionally, the 35-year-old had been managing a lingering knee issue for nearly two years, one that never fully stabilized during his early run in Philadelphia. The enforced break allowed him to rehab without the physical toll of game action while maintaining conditioning through controlled workouts.
Active or not, Paul George knows the Philadelphia 76ers are close but not complete, as they head into the final stretch of the regular season.
Despite a dominant 153-131 win over the Washington Wizards, the veteran forward pointed to defense as the team’s biggest area for improvement.
“We just gotta continue to get better,” George said postgame. “We gotta be a better defensive team. That’s what it comes down to. Defense wins… especially when you’re talking about competing for a championship.”
His concern is not baseless, as Philadelphia currently ranks 18th in defensive rating, which falls short of typical championship standards. While the team has shown offensive firepower, the inability to consistently get stops remains a lingering issue.
