Paul George raised eyebrows recently when he said on his "Podcast P" podcast that joining the Charlotte Hornets would’ve signaled the end of his career. But one former NBA star wasn’t having it.
“I’m not picking Charlotte just because there’s no winning culture there. My career is over with if I go there," said George.
Five-time NBA champion Ron Harper fired back, mocking George’s comment and suggesting that the Clippers star is already past his prime.
Harper called out George’s opinion as arrogant and dismissive of a young Hornets squad trying to build a culture.
“It been over!” said the former NBA pro who played from 1986 to 2001.
It been over!!!!

George made the controversial remark when explaining that he didn’t consider Charlotte a serious destination in free agency because of their lack of a winning mindset.
While some understood his desire to chase a ring, others, like Harper, saw it as a shot at a struggling franchise and an ironic statement from a player who hasn’t advanced past the conference finals since 2014.
Now 34 years old, George is entering the twilight of his career. While still productive, averaging 16.2 points per game last season with the Clippers, his best years appear behind him. Injuries and postseason inconsistency have marked much of the last few seasons, and critics argue that he hasn’t lived up to his “Playoff P” nickname.
Harper, who won titles with both the Bulls and Lakers, knows a thing or two about winning. From his perspective, George’s attitude toward the Hornets reflects a player whose priorities may not align with team-building or mentorship — two qualities that often define great veterans in their final years.
