The San Antonio Spurs are enjoying an excellent start to the 2025-26 NBA season.

The Spurs beat the Brooklyn Nets 118-107 on Sunday afternoon to improve their record to 3-0.

Victor Wembanyama has looked like an MVP candidate, while Stephon Castle, Devin Vassell, and Dylan Harper have also impressed.

San Antonio’s victories are even more impressive because they have been without All-Star point guard De’Aaron Fox.

Now, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett have debated whether the Spurs should look to trade him this season.

Paul Pierce wants San Antonio Spurs to trade De’Aaron Fox

Pierce has been so impressed with the Spurs that he does not think they need Fox once he returns from injury.

The Boston Celtics legend explained that he would rather see them focus on their young core, which might not include the 27-year-old.

“They should look to get a trade for D Fox,” Pierce suggested. “I like the core with the young guys. I like the lineup of the guys who are around the same age to grow together.

“I think Fox needs to be on a team that can contend right now. Not to say that San Antonio is not a contender, but I think he needs to be on a different type of team, and let these young guys develop and grow.

“Don’t take away what you have with Vassell. The guard play is there. I need them to develop, and Fox is already an established All-Star in this league.

“He needs to go somewhere where he feels like he can win now and not try to grow with this young squad.”

The Spurs traded multiple draft picks to acquire Fox last year, so it would be interesting to see what they would expect to receive for him now.

Kevin Garnett urges San Antonio Spurs to keep De’Aaron Fox

Kevin Garnett completely disagrees with Paul Pierce’s stance on De’Aaron Fox and is excited for him to return from injury.

He highlighted Fox’s clutch shot-making ability, which could elevate the 3-0 Spurs to another level for the remainder of the season.

“I would not move D Fox,” Garnett argued. “I’ll just slide him in here. You have Dylan coming in, and then you can play double point guard, bringing the ball up in this environment, which speeds up the pace.

“Wait until D Fox gets back because he makes shots in the fourth quarter. That’s in your veins. That’s in your heart.

“I like this combination because D Fox is a vet. He’s not old. He is just a vet. I like the combination. I like the young Spurs.”
