Paul Pierce believes the Golden State Warriors, despite their recent moves, aren’t going to compete for an NBA championship.

The Golden State Warriors have put in a lot of work to try and compete for the NBA championship this season. Building around Jimmy Butler and Stephen Curry became a priority for the Warriors.

Steve Kerr relies a lot on his stars. In fact, Kerr admitted Butler solves their careless mistakes when handling the ball on the court.

While there has been some discourse about Jimmy Butler as the Warriors’ second option, there is no denying that he is an excellent player who can contribute to winning.

But for any fans expecting the Warriors to make a title push next season, former NBA champion Paul Pierce has some bad news.

Paul Pierce explains why Golden State Warriors’ championship window is done

Paul Pierce spoke to Kevin Garnett on Ticket & The Truth about the Golden State Warriors. While he initially liked the pairing of Butler and Curry, he is less sure about their chances now.

Pierce believes the Warriors will be fun to watch, but just don’t have enough to compete with the best teams in the West.

“I liked them when they first made the move, but I feel like the honeymoon is over. You know how you get into a fresh relationship and everything’s all sparks and roses, and the dating, and the flowers, and all this little stuff. Then the relationship matures.

“I think it’s mature because when I look at them, they are a year older. They have one of the older teams in the league. I just feel like the window closed on them.

“I love the tenacity, leadership, and veteran presence on that team. I just feel like they can’t keep up with these young teams, like Minnesota, Denver, and OKC.

“When you’re older like that, it’s tough. This is a young man’s league, and you’ve got to have some athleticism over there. I don’t think anybody is looking at Golden State with that presence anymore.

“They’re going to be fun to watch again. It’s always going to be fun watching Butler and Curry do their thing.

“But I just think teams aren’t going to respect them like they did in the past. Teams are feeling like, ‘We’re better than you now.’

“Whereas, when you used to play against Golden State, there was a fear factor. I think that fear factor is gone.”

Golden State Warriors roster has some built-in problems

While on paper, the Golden State Warriors’ roster looks to be quite strong, there are some major issues when you take a closer look.

Steve Kerr admitted the Warriors’ age will be tricky to combat, as all of their best players are on the wrong side of 35, and can’t play excessive minutes through the season.

Stephen Jackson recently claimed the Warriors have the best lineup with Jonathan Kuminga on the court, but so far, it’s hard to see where he’s coming from.

Their opening night win against the LA Lakers showed that there is still a lot for them to work on as time goes on, if they want to live up to their title aspirations.
